Signs of a Kansas City Raccoon infestation

Searching for information about Kansas City raccoon infections?

Have you ever woken up to find that your trash cans are flipped over, and garbage scattered around your yard?

How about finding that your bird feeders are cracked open or that your plants are torn up and dismantled. If that’s the case, you may have a raccoon problem.

Raccoons often come out of their dwelling in search of food in trash cans.

They aren’t afraid to invade urban and suburban neighborhoods and homes for any scraps of food that you may have at the bottom of the bin.

4 Signs of a Kansas City Raccoon infestation

If you aren’t sure if you are getting invaded by raccoons or if it could potentially be another creature in your neighborhood, here are some common signs of a raccoon infestation.

1) Flipped Trash Cans

Raccoons aren’t picky when it comes to food that is available. One of the first tell-tale signs that you may have a raccoon infestation is if you find your garbage cans flipped up and trash and debris scattered around it. Raccoons are notorious for digging through garbage to find food scraps and leaving a mess behind them.

2) Scratch Marks and Droppings

Raccoons tend to leave their mark when they raid your home. You may find raccoon droppings at the base of your trees, or near woodpiles if you have any piled up wood outside of your home. Check for scratch marks at the base of your trees as well. If you notice small scratch marks near the bottom of your trees, this is typically an indication that you have some raccoon visitors.

3) Prints

Prints are a surefire way to tell if you have been visited by raccoons. Take a look around your yard, and pay close attention to any patches of dirt where it would be easy to identify tracks. Raccoon footprints will look similar to human prints, but will only be about 4 inches in length.

4) Shuffling and Noises

Though they tend to be nocturnal, raccoons aren’t always the stealthiest in nature. You may hear them running across the roof of your house, ruffling through your bushes, or shuffling around in your trees. Keep an eye and an ear out for signs of these furry invaders.
